Year 2 Vertical Line Symmetry Worksheets
Decide whether a dashed vertical line is a line of symmetry. The first-page examples include shapes that encourage pupils to check a reflection rather than simply spot a line through the middle.

Model it before pupils practise
Use 2D Shape & Symmetry Explorer to compare a rectangle with a slanted parallelogram. Imagine folding each shape along a vertical line: do corresponding edges and vertices meet? Confirm the reflection in the tool.
What to listen for
A line dividing a shape into equal areas is not always a line of symmetry. The two sides must match when reflected across the line.
Take it further
Ask pupils to draw one shape with a vertical line of symmetry and one without. Have a partner explain the evidence for each choice.
